Supporting Magdalen College’s School Fair

We are thrilled to have attended the ‘Beyond Magdalen College School Fair’, hosted by Magdalen College in Brackley on Thursday 30 January. The event was a chance for various businesses and further education organisations such as Brackley Town FC and Bedfordshire University to showcase the opportunities available to students after finishing school.

Our Talent Acquisition Partner, Umar Nasir, Learning and Development Officer, Sarah Wilson, and Support Services Team Leader, Haley Perkins attended the event to promote our apprentice programme to students from year 9 and above. They gave the students valuable information including the benefits of an apprenticeship, including learning on the job, earning a full-time salary and receiving a formal qualification.

The team also talked about life at Valda, career development prospects post apprenticeship and their own early career experience after leaving school. The students showed great interest in the different departments at Valda, the opportunities of an apprenticeship and fast-paced nature of the energy industry.

Though some students had clear aspirations and career plans already on track, many were unsure about what they wanted to do after finishing school. These students were keen to hear about the available pathways to starting a career and were eager to find out more about apprenticeships and how they can help kickstart their careers.

Our team was able to provide great insights and were delighted to share some of the success stories from our own cohort of apprentices, including the contributions they have made, the promotions they have received and their own personal growth.

Sarah, who is heavily involved in our apprenticeship programme said “It was interesting to hear the students’ aspirations. It was rewarding to encourage those who were unsure which path they wanted to take to consider an apprenticeship. I wish I had the opportunity to attend an event like this when I was at school. It might have inspired me to become an apprentice myself.”

We want to thank Magdalen College for inviting us to exhibit at their School Fair and for their hospitality during the event. We are proud and excited to support the next generation in their career journeys and look forward to participating in more career events in the future.
